Category:Public House
Licensed drinking establishments.
Below is a list of the premises known about (or conjectured in some cases) with an indication of location if known. Please note that occasionally establishments pub signs moved to different premises, sometimes with the landlord, and some establishments changed their name or sign, sometimes as landlords changed but not exclusively.
For the most past prefixes (The, Old, etc.) and some of the parts describing their relative status (Inn, Tavern, Hotel, Grill, Ale House, etc.) have not been added as they tended to change back and forth over time and use.
It should also be noted that some may never have had a name over the door - in earlier times not everyone could read so the pictorial sign was probably more important and even earlier than that the only indication might have been a symbolic item such as a wheatsheaf, a green branch , crown, etc. depending on their status and how well they were established!
