Located variously in premises in Stricklandgate (1826-1830), at 58 Highgate (1830-1835) and latterly at 37 Highgate (1835-.

The business was started in Kendal around 1826 by Samuel Rhodes when he came to Kendal from Preston. He later ran it with his sons John, William and James when they were old enough to start work.
