"It was announced that, as authorised by the Committee at their meeting held on 8th February, 1955, the Borough Surveyor had appointed Mr W. Strickland as attendant of the tennis courts and putting greens" (Kendal Borough Council Minutes 14 June 1955)

From the 13th June that year The Parks Committee resolved that the post should be paid £4 per week (plus £1 for Sunday Work).
