Fellside
From KendalWiki
On the west side of Kendal this was one of the poorest areas from the 18th century until the middle of the 20th century. Most residents survived on their own wits doing 'piece work' (manufacturing at home paid by the item produced with materials supplied) in the wool and leather trades. It had a very strong sense of community, self sufficient out of necessity and to a certain extent regarded as lawless and fiercely independent.
