CURWEN 1900
The first market charter was granted to Gilbert Fitz Reinfred (the son of Roger Fitz Reinfred) Baron of Kendal, early in the reign of Richard I - to hold a weekly market every saturday.
In 1210 the charter was extended to also holding an annual fair.
