Extending east from the junction of Highgate and Stricklandgate it is joined by several yards (see below) and terminates at its junction with Branthwaite Brow, Stramongate and Kent Street.
History
Finkle Street was the main route out of the town centre to the north even after Stricklandgate was established as a main road (Windermere/Bowness did not develop as a town until the arrival of the railway) until Sandes Avenue and Victoria Bridge were built in the late 19th century. The western (Highgate) end originally branched into two roads, one half remaining as Finkle Street, the other (the northern arm) becoming Crook Lane. Between the two was the Pump Inn and a museum facing the main street with the open air fish market to the rear looking down Finkle Street. As might be guessed there was also a pump behind these buildings no doubt used by the market. Occupying that space now there is the modern shelter or 'Birdcage'
